Czech Olympic parks to spread across Europe

19 October 2016

Olympic parks are set to spread across the Czech Republic. The concept, developed to coincide with this year’s Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, proved successful, as 400,000 visitors had an opportunity to try various sports in the first Olympic park in Prague 7-Letná. Another location in Lipno Lake in South Bohemia attracted 350,000 visitors over the summer. The chairman of the Czech Olympic committee, Jan Kejval, told Hospodářské noviny that a total of seven parks are to be developed around the Czech Republic ahead of the next Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2020, including locations in Lipno, Ostrava, Pilsen, Pardubice, Prague, Brno and Pec pod Sněžkou. Prague is considering Výstaviště (the exhibition area) in Prague 7-Holešovice, Vypich and Ladronka in Prague 6 and Štvanice as suitable locations. The concept is set to spread across Europe as well, with Belgium, Croatia, France, Finland, Italy and Austria interested in building Olympic parks for 2020.
