Czech PM wants state to finance transport projects in Prague

7 October 2014

Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka (Social Democrats) announced that the government wants to focus on the completion of Prague infrastructure projects, like, for instance, the railway connection between the Masarykovo train station and the Prague airport. It also wants to move forward with construction of the city’s fourth metro line, connecting Pankrác to Písnice and complete the ring road. Sobotka said that while the whole ring road will take years to finish, the section connecting the D1 and D11 motorways is crucial. He also said that the state should finance the railway connection from the airport to the Masarykovo train station, which will be built by the state railway authority (SŽDC). Sobotka suggested the metro extension be financed from the state’s transport fund or EU funds. He also said that the government will continue to support these projects even if his Social Democrats fail to pick up leadership positions during next weekend’s elections.
