Czech Post has submitted its transformation plan to the government

2 October 2023

Czech Post has completed the implementation plan for its transformation. Its aim is to stabilise its long-term management, to spin off commercial services into a new state-owned company, Balíkovna, and to expand Czech Post’s offer with new products and services as a contact point between the state and the citizen. The government is expected to take it up on Wednesday. The Post Office announced this today.

The transformation should take place over the next two years and at the end of it the Post Office should return to a positive result. Last year, the company posted a loss of CZK 1.73 billion and is threatened with a billion-dollar drop this year despite austerity measures. The plan is divided into three main chapters, which are the transformation of the current Czech Post, its future after the separation of the Parcel Office and the future of the independent Parcel Office.

The first chapter describes in detail the financing of the transformation and the forecast of the management of the current Czech Post for the next three years, the necessary legislative framework, changes in IT, in the property structure and in the product portfolio. The next chapter describes the strategy of the transformed Czech Post, the changes in products and services, distribution and organisational structure, and provides a timetable for the implementation of these changes. The third chapter presents the steps leading to the creation of an independent Parcel Office, its future strategy, products and services and the new organisational structure. It concludes with a summary of the different programmes and a description of the related organisation and processes.

In the middle of this year, Czech Post reduced the number of branches by 300 to 2,900 and laid off about 1,000 people due to cost savings. It currently employs about 22,000.
