Czech president: Erste Group moving to Prague?

10 April 2014

At an economic summit on Wednesday, Czech President Miloš Zeman revealed that the Vienna-based Erste Group was considering moving its headquarters to Prague. He said the company’s director, Andreas Treichl, told him about the idea. This would be the first time that the mother company of a bank moved to one of its subsidiaries. A spokeswoman contacted by the daily Lidové noviny pointed out that the company is currently building a new headquarters building in Vienna, due for completion in 2015. However, she declined to rule out a potential Czech move, saying that the tax environment of a country is important for every company.
