Czech Railways will allow Ukrainian citizens free transport on its trains

25 February 2022

Czech Railways will allow Ukrainian citizens who want to return to their homeland free transportation on their trains. The measure is intended to facilitate the transfer of Ukrainians, mainly to the station in Bohumín, from where it is possible to continue via Poland to Ukraine, because the railways do not operate their own line to Ukraine. This was stated today by Czech Railways. On Thursday, the carrier also offered the authorities dozens of cars for the possible evacuation of civilians from Ukraine.

“With immediate effect, passengers who prove their passport in the Republic of Ukraine can travel free of charge on all Czech Railways trains throughout the Czech Republic. These passengers are allowed to carry these passengers without reservation,” said spokesman Petr Stahlavsky. According to the measure, the measures are intended to enable Ukrainians to move to Bohumín quickly and smoothly, where they can change trains to Poland and continue to Ukraine.

In response to the escalation of the conflict in Ukraine on Thursday, Czech Railways also offered the Czech and Ukrainian authorities dozens of cars for the possible evacuation of civilians from Ukraine. The company is ready to provide cars with a capacity of up to 6,000 seats. According to the company, it will also be possible to use trains to evacuate people in neighboring countries.
