Czech residential powers 2nd solar boom

28 August 2012

The Czech daily Hospodarske noviny reports that the country is gearing up for a second boom in solar voltaic installations. This time, however, rather than consuming hectares of open fields and sparking widespread land speculation transactions, this boom will be seen primarily on the roofs of family homes. The number of approved collectors is expected to double by the end of the year. A spokesman for the power company CEZ revealed that as of the end of July, it had approved connections for 6,000 new collectors, producing 80MW of power. The company currently has 11,000 applications to work through. Another power company, E.ON, has given the green light to 2,500 collectors, producing 45MW of power. Most applications are for smaller installations of up to 5kW.
