Dan Ťok has resigned as CEO of Skanska after being nominated to head the Czech Transport Ministry. Ťok was tapped for the position by Finance Minister Andrej Babiš, who also heads the ANO political party. Patrik Choleva, Skanska’s financial director, will step in as interim CEO until the developer finds a replacement.
While the government has not yet approved the nomination, Ťok has been hailed for his anti-corruption stance and his deep knowledge of the construction business. Some politicians, however, are concerned about a potential conflict of interest, as Ťok has led Skanska’s Czech branch since 2008.
Ťok told Hospodářské noviny that he wants to boost road and motorway construction. The National Fund for Transport Infrastructure has CZK 70bn in its coffers, which is expected to grow to CZK 106bn next year. However, there are currently no projects in the works. Ťok wants to implement more efficient methods to accelerate the process.
