Czech tax authorities monitoring Airbnb providers

1 August 2018

The Czech tax authority has been assembling data on people who offer Airbnb services to ensure they are including the extra income in their tax filings. Hospodářské noviny reports that the agency has not revealed where it’s gotten the information and that the Ministry of Finance has also refused to comment on the basis that this would help people cheat on their taxes. It’s the latest blow that the Czech state has landed on the shared economy, having forced the ride sharing service Uber to provide information about the drivers it works with in the country. Airbnb claims it has not handed over any information about those it works with in the Czech Republic.
