Czechs are using the country’s rail network in ever greater numbers, statistics show. Last year, the state operator Czech Railways handled 174.7 million passengers, which was an increase of 3.2 million. The majority of these trips were commuter or domestic trips, however the number of international travelers increased by 400,000 to nearly 4.8 million. The total number of kilometers traveled was the highest in 20 years – 7.7 billion kilometers. The biggest private rail services operator RegioJet saw its total passenger numbers jump 25 percent to 4.67 million, thanks to three new connections between Prague, Brno and Bratislava. The average distance traveled on each trip was 44.5 kilometers.
