The average gross wage in the Czech Republic rose 6.7 percent in the last quarter of 2019 to CZK 36,144, which the Czech Statistics Office calculates to mean a net raise of 3.6 percent after inflation. Looked at another way, 80 percent of all employees made between CZK 15,365 and CZK 58,398 per month. But the pace of wage growth slowed in 2019, except for a few professions such as teaching where the average salary improved 12.5 percent to CZK 35,323 per month. Teaching has traditionally been among the under-valued jobs in the Czech Republic, a fact which critics warn bodes poorly for the country’s long-term competitiveness. The banking and insurance sectors by contrast have the highest remuneration, averaging CZK 59,296 per month.
