Czechs ban flights from South Korea and northern Italy

3 March 2020

With four confirmed cases of coronavirus, the Czech state has stepped in to block flights from South Korea. Flights are also expected to be halted from Milan, Bergamo, Bologna, and Venice. Bus connections with Italy are also being severed, with RegioJet announcing that it will halt service between Prague, Rome and Milan as of Friday. Customers will be offered a refund or else a seat on any remaining buses before Friday. The Ministry of Health has warned that visits to senior homes, hospices and long-term care facilities should be severely limited to protect the health of people inside them. The Ministry of Health is considering whether to declare a state of emergency, which would allow it to control the distribution of protective equipment, medical supplies and to ban larger public events.

In the private sector, companies are asking employees who have been travelling in Italy to work from home for two weeks after their return. But there’s no panic at this point. The Prague co-working center Opero says that it already cleans and disinfects all areas of its facility daily and that it would not be cancelling any events or limiting members from coming in at this point.

HubHub, another prominent co-working space space provider, says it’s instructed its cleaning staff to redouble efforts to ensure all common areas areas are cleaned and disinfected on a daily basis, with special attention to door handles and kitchen areas. The company has also provided internal guidelines to its local HubHub teams across Central Europe detailing how to proceed in case of the virus will affect one of its locations.
