Czechs could lose CZK 27bn in EU funding

22 June 2012

The Czech Republic could lose CZK 20bn in EU funding it’s been counting on to finance transport infrastructure. The reason, according to the director of State fund of transport infrastructure (SFDI) Tomáš Čoček, are flaws in the projects. As a result, the EU could refuse to refund the country for investments where the state has already paid the contractors. The EU could also refuse to foot the bill for CZK 7bn worth of metro expansion to Motol. Čoček admits that audits of transport projects completed since 2008 have uncovered a multiplicity of errors, with cost overruns of particular concern.
