Czechs develop coal business in Silesia

10 May 2012

Six months after the Czech investor EPH took over a Polish mine in Silesia, work has begun in the city of Czechowice-Dziedzice, with the workforce increasing to 11,520 jobs from just 731 in December 2010. The plan is to create 2,150 jobs by the end of 2013, with the mining capacity increasing to 3m tons per year over the period, and the investment volume expected to reach PLN 800m. EPH’s management board has entered into an agreement with the mine’s crew to introduce new regulations, allowing for a four-shift work system. This way, work in the mine is expected to take place 24/7. It’s the first time such a solution has been implemented in the Polish mining sector.
