Domestic tourism is making a rapid comeback, as Czechs are busy making reservations in the most popular summer tourist destinations in Southern Bohemia and South Moravia. The owner of the online booking agency Skrz.cz Matěj Dvorský says that compared to last year, demand is now just one-third less. It’s a big improvement from a month ago, when the difference was 56 percent lower. The successful loosening of restrictions is helping of course, but so is ongoing uncertainty over what options there will be for travelling abroad. At the moment, it appears that Czechs will be able to take vacations in Croatia, as well as Austria, but government officials from these countries are still working out the details.
Ladislav Veselý, director of Slevomat, says that with the foreign travel situation still unclear, Czechs are quickly booking up the most popular locations and dates. “Many will have to improvise and discover new places, meaning those that are still free on their preferred dates.” The biggest question from customers, besides whether the borders will be open, is whether they will have to quarantine for two weeks upon returning or show a negative Covid-19 test.
