The time spent by Czechs on social networks increased by 11 percent to 2.5 hours a day last year after the coronavirus epidemic broke out. This year, this time remains roughly at the same level. This emerges from a new survey by the Ami Digital Index.
The growing use of networks is probably due to the coronavirus situation, where people spent more time online and used social networks more often as a source of information and entertainment. Four-fifths of people are active on social networks practically every day.
In the long run, the most popular social media are YouTube and Facebook, with which about nine out of ten Czechs have experience. For several years in a row, Instagram, which is used by over 54 percent of the Internet population, has been strengthening strongly, with TikTok recording the largest year-on-year increase to almost 20 percent.
People in the Czech Republic spent about half an hour less on Facebook, Instagram and other social networks than Slovaks, where the average is about three hours.
