Czechs up humanitarian aid as military presence dwindles

14 May 2012

The Czech Defence Ministry has put in a request for CZK 2m to be spent on development and humanitarian projects in Afghanistan, according to the Czech news site CzechPosition.cz. It quotes a spokesman for the ministry as saying the increase in aid programs is being sought at the same time as the country starts withdrawing its soldiers from the country. Just 539 soliders will be in Afghanistan as of next year, which is around 100 fewer than this year.
