Work is to get underway in September on the modernization of one of the last remaining sections of railroad tracks between Prague and České Budějovice. The project, worth CZK 3.9bn will involve infratructure between Soběslav and Doubí with the work having been assigned to Strabag Rail, Eurovia CS and Metrostav. Modernization of this corridor began in 2014 with the goal of getting train speeds up to 160 km/h in both directions. One more section of track will need to be completed before the entire project is complete allowing connections between the two cities in just 100 minutes, down from the two hours that the journey currently takes. Ten years ago, the situation was even worse, with passengers needing to set aside 160 minutes to travel the same distance. The trip between Prague and Tabor will also shorten to just 70 minutes.
