The Czech state has been making high profile investments into its motorway network in recent years, but it’s also pouring considerable resources into its railway infrastructure. One of the largest investments ever is now being prepared involving tracks leading to and connected to the Pardubice train station. The work will include the modernization of the station itself, including the installation of escalators to all of the platforms and a barrier free footbridge connecting the area in front of the station to the southern portion of Pardubice. When work is completed, trains will be able to pass through the station and the city itself at 160 km/hr and will enable more efficient handling of cargo trains of up to 740 meters in length. In all, costs are expected to come to roughly CZK 4.4bn.
