The Czech Highway Authority (RSD) claims that reconstruction work on the D1 motorway between Prague and Brno is set to end next year. It means that seven years of misery for drivers isn’t over yet. RSD’s director Radek Matl said that most of the work that’s currently underway should be completed by the end of November. This should bring to an end to the frequent back-ups that commuters have to put up with until the snowy weather begins in December. Reconstruction work on the motorway began on the first of 21 sections of the D1 in 2013, but work on the last four will get underway in the summer of 2021. More than CZK 120 billion has been invested in the D1 this year, while the final year’s work is being budgeted at CZK 128 billion. Matl claims that despite the coronavirus, work has progressed on schedule in 2020. He said that around 100,000 cars use the D1 near Prague, while 70,000 are on it in the Brno area.
