The extension of the Danubiana Meulensteen Art Museum has been completed. The project secured its occupancy permit in August and is scheduled to open next week. Work on Danubiana, located on the Bratislava Čunovo dam, started in March 2013 with the aim to create the largest modern art museum in Slovakia. Costs totaled €6m and the project was financed by the state through Ministry of Culture.
The extension, designed by Atelier 008, added 12,000 sqm to the museum, increasing its exhibition space from 900 sqm to 2,726 sqm. The roof will house a sculpture park. The founder and current owner of the museum, Gerhard H. Meulensteen, donated the property and his private art collection to Danubiana, which will be taken over by the state in 20 years.
