SEN Development is working with the artist David Černý on a bridge connecting two buildings on opposite sides of Lihovarská street in Prague 9. It would be a relatively original idea on its own, but it will end up becoming famous because the bridge will take the form of a train crash that memorializes a famous accident that took place in Paris in 1895 at the Montparnass station. In the incident, a locomotive coming from Granville failed to stop in time and crashed through a wall and a terrace at the station before plunging nine meters onto the street below, barely missing a passing street car. SEN Development’s owner Eugen told iDNES.cz said he agreed with Černy’s idea the moment he heard it. “I know the area and the old ČKD factory there. Locomotives and trains were built there so it’s the exact right spot for the sculpture.” He said the project was something local residents could be proud of because it would symbolize and celebrate the area’s industrial heritage.
