The Czech Ministry of Culture has given its blessing to have the Transgas headquarters at the bottom of Vinohrady street in Prague 2 torn down. While fans of Brutalist architecture may be dismayed by the move, it means plans by HB Reavis to build a new office complex in its place can go ahead. The ministry justified decision by saying the buildings don’t fit into their surroundings and that they’re not even particularly valuable in an architectural sense. HB Reavis clearly believes this to be putting the matter diplomatically. “Instead of the three over-sized Transgas buildings, we’ll build seven office houses that will fit in with the rest of Vinohrady,” wrote the company in reaction to the news, according to e15. Construction is expected to being next year and should be finished by 2021.
