Die Welt: Klaus seeks break-up of EU

8 March 2012

Citing Jiri Payne, an aide to the Czech president Vaclav Klaus, the influential German paper Die Welt claims that the notorious Euro-skeptic is doing what he can to bring about the break-up of the European Union. It says that the president’s support of the inclusion of Turkey in the European Union is actually intended as a topic that could sow further discord among current members. Payne told the Die Welt that merely getting the Czech Republic to leave the EU was too small a goal for Klaus and that he would do all he could to strengthen anti-EU sentiment around the union.
