The Florida Department of Transportation has doubled the budget for District 2 (including Duval and surrounding counties) to $800 million or 20 percent of the state’s yearly transportation budget. District 2 is normally allocated 10 to 11 percent of the FDOT budget for the 18 counties it represents. The majority of the funding will go to counties surrounding the greater Jacksonville area.Projects included in the new budget are the First Coast Expressway, improvements to I-95 at the 295 interchange and the I-10 and 301 interchange. Other investments include widening and adding lanes to a section of A1A between I-95 and the Amelia Island and Fernandina Beach area of Nassau County.
