The Prague Transport Company (DPP) is looking for a company that will build a hall and complete the remaining parts of the depot in Hloubětín. The cost of the tender should be a maximum of CZk 1.6 billion and the construction will take 26 months, according to Hana Pohanová from DPP. The company is now building an energy center in the depot, which will supply it with electricity. The depot is to be completed and put into operation in 2023. The Hloubětín depot from 1951 was in poor condition, and the company therefore had to have it demolished the year before last in August.
In the planned phase of reconstruction, the company will have a new hall built. It will have a parking section for 61 cars and a repair section with six stations for 12 trams. A novelty will be suspension bridges, which will make it easier to maintain parts of newer types of cars.
The company will also build two new buildings in the area for further operations and will demolish several remaining buildings. It repairs roads, rebuilds parking and parking areas and adjusts greenery.
The new depot is to be more environmentally friendly. “We are going to supply energy from the roof photovoltaic panels to the depot, we will wash the trams with rainwater again and we will provide heating with the help of energy-saving heat pumps,” said Deputy Mayor Adam Scheinherr (Prague Sobě).
The energy center and substation will be operational at the end of September this year. If the now announced tender does without any problems, DPP plans to follow up on the commissioning of the energy center by starting the construction of a new hall in the last quarter.
DPP uses seven depots, namely Hloubětín, Kobylisy, Motol, Pankrác, Strašnice, Vokovice and Žižkov. The company has over 900 trams. The cost of tram operation in Prague is over CZK 3 billion a year.
