Drones to monitor infrastructure projects

24 November 2014

In an effort to prevent lawsuits, the Czech Road and Motorway Directorate (ŘSD) plans to use drones to observe the construction of major infrastructure projects in the Czech Republic. The transport ministry will launch construction tenders worth CZK 90bn next year. The ANO political party, which is responsible for the transport ministry, claims that cost-cutting is its main priority. ŘSD was having a hard time overseeing major construction projects, according to ANO. For example, the company it appointed to monitor work on the D47 motorway turned out to be working for the contractor at the same time. Drones will also be used for air surveys, writes the weekly Euro, as they are much cheaper than standard aerial photography.
