The Czech Air Navigation Services company says the number of planes flying to and over the Czech Republic has dropped by 7 percent. There are currently 1,700 movements of this kind daily that the organization is tracking, which is 150 less than normal and 300 off the pace from exactly a year ago. The company’s spokesman Richard Klíma says the decline is as unmistakable as the cause. The Czech figures what’s going on worldwide in air travel and it hints at the economic challenges to come. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has just published a study that predicts that the airline industry will lose a minimum of $63bn this year. If the number of serious outbreaks spreads to more countries, total losses could exceed $100bn, according to the IATA. The first European airline Flybe has already collapsed due to the rapid decrease in demand for travel.
