Dutch Chamber of Commerce reports sharp rise of bankruptcies in April

8 June 2020

The Dutch Chamber of Commerce reports that there were 9 percent fewer start-ups over the first five months of 2020 than a year ago. Over the same period, it noted a 19 percent increase y-o-y in the number of companies that halted production, while the number of bankruptcies jumped in the month of April. This statistic was the most pronounced in the province of Gelderland where bankruptcies were up 54 percent compared to April 2019. In reaction to the global crisis, the chamber will be publishing monthly reports instead of its usual quarterly data updates in order to monitor the evolving Dutch economy more closely.
