easyJet profits soar 21.5%

18 November 2014

The British low-cost airline easyJet posted a pre-tax profit of GBP 581m in the 12 months to the end of September. The figure is a 21.5-percent increase from the previous year, when the company reported GBP 478m in profits. The strong performance was attributed to a 7 percent boost in passenger numbers. The carrier currently has a fleet of 226 planes.

Airline officials warn that ticket costs could increase by 2.5 percent in the coming year as fees for airport, navigation and maintenance go up. However, easyJet officials are anticipating fuel prices will go down, which could lower costs by as much as GBP 22m over the next six months, according to news reports.
