The European Commission has recommended Bulgaria take all necessary measures in the short term to confront the coronavirus pandemic, while keeping the economy afloat and promoting recovery. In the long-term, the EC proposed that the country should pursue a prudent fiscal policy to ensure that it can continue to keep up with its debt servicing commitments but also look to increase investment.
The EC also recommended that Bulgaria promote green investments and undertake a digital transformation to improve the efficiency of the state bureaucracy, while reducing its carbon footprint through environmental infrastructure and sustainable transport.
