9 March 2017

The European Commission will contribute €147.6m to finance the construction of the D3 motorway around Žilina. The project is part of the Žilina bypass, connecting the D1 motorway and Poland. The EC says the project will help connect the transport infrastructure systems in Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria and Hungary. Corina Cretu, EC commissioner for regional politics, said that top-quality infrastructure will improve economic competitiveness and will boost the economy in Žilina and the whole region. The majority of the D3 section around Žilina will go through tunnels or across bridges.
