ECE broke ground on a logistics center in Hamburg for Hermes Germany GmbH. The €55m project, going up in the city’s Billbrook district, is the fifth of nine centers ECE and Hermes are developing together. The companies will invest a total of approximately €600m into the nine locations, which in addition to Hamburg will include centers Cologne and Dresden. ECE will cover the building costs, including those associated with land acquisition, while Hermes will pay for the centers’ technological solutions. The Hamburg property, scheduled for completion in 2019, includes a 9,000 sqm logistics facility as well as an adjacent 2,900 sqm building with office, service, and social space. The center will create about 200 jobs.
“We are proud that today’s construction start marks a further milestone for our long-term future and innovation project,” said Frank Rausch, CEO of Hermes Germany. “This series of new logistics centers in Germany helps us prepare extensively for the challenges posed to us by the booming e-commerce. Our objective is to be closer to the customer and to provide sustained services and convenience for our partners, clients, and our end customer. We can achieve this with highly modern facilities in prime locations like this one here in Hamburg.”
