The EIA assessment for extension of the airport in Vodochody in Prague may be cancelled by the Czech environmental ministry. A special committee assembled to look into numerous objections to the scheme is expected to recommend this to Environment minister Richard Brabec. The minister has now 60 days to decide whether to adhere to the recommendation.
The director of the Vodochody airport Martin Kačur told ČTK that cancellation of the EIA would set the project back by at least a year. This would foil Penta’s intention of opening the airport for commercial use by 2016. The group wants to create a second international airport for Prague that would target low-cost airlines and that could handle up to 3.5 million passengers annually.
