In a first for the newly incorporated village of Estero, the city council has approved its first rezoning request since attaining municipality status last year. The council agreed to the construction of a 340 bed continuing care retirement community and 15,000 square feet of medical office space. The land was originally zoned for 200,000 square feet of offices and retail space. The developers of the new facility, Volunteers of America, is a faith-based organization with a corporate office in St. Petersburg. Plans call for the start of construction in 2017.
