Euro 2012 to benefit economy till 2020

8 June 2012

According to a study by economists from the University of Łódź and the Jagiellonian University, hosting Euro 2012 Poland could increase the output of Poland’s economy by PLN 36.6bn by 2020. That would represent 2.1% of the country’s GDP in 2009. According to Erste Group Research, Poland managed to survive the recent crisis period thanks to a large number of investments carried out in connection with the football tournament. Furthermore, the researchers from Ernst & Young and Oxford Economics argue that delays in delivering some of the projects could prove beneficial for Poland, as they give Poland more time to spend the money.
