J&T Real Estate (JTRE) has taken a step forward on its plans to extend the Eurovea complex in downtown Bratislava by concluding a contract with VHS-PS that will allow it to move onto the site on March 31. The other contractors, a consortium called EUROVEA 2, include the lead member STRABAG Pozemni a inzinierske staviteľstvo s. r. o. and the company SYTIQ a. s. They are expected to get on site within a few weeks, according to JTRE. Foundation work for the project is already underway with nearly 1,400 pilings totaling 22 kilometers in length to be installed.
“The expansion of EUROVEA is moving to the phase where the structure will rapidly ascend from the foundation to soon form into the EUROVEA TOWER,” says JTRE Executive Director Pavel Pelikan. “This process, one that required years of preparation, hard work and constant communication with architects, engineers, urban planners and other professionals, with representatives of the city and city districts, with neighbors and other public, will soon realize its appearance and structure.”
The developer is moving forward on the project while respecting the unique demands placed on investors during this period of pandemic COVID-19. JTRE officials say they took action at the end of February, implementing strict sanitary procedures to be followed by any firm that active on-site. The company is ensuring that appropriate protective equipment is being used and is taking the temperature of people entering the construction site.
“We are aware of the responsibility for the safety of our employees and partners, the need for our colleagues and external staff to take care of their children while schools are closed, as well as the situation of foreign suppliers in regards to the closing of borders,” said Pelikan. However, he said, the company also understands the pressure that workers would potentially come under if they were deprived of their only source of income if development was halted. Work began in December 2019 as soon as JTRE secured the project’s construction permit.
In all, six new buildings are to be erected: an extension of the Eurovea mall, a new 168-meter skyscraper (EUROVEA TOWER), a new residential building and two office buildings. Apartment sales got underway and JTRE reports that 65 percent of 485 units have been sold.
