Eurovia was chosen to remove the soil that buried an unfinished section of the D8 motorway in North Bohemia last year. Transport minister Antonín Prachař suggested the construction company would be entrusted with the work without a tender. The order to remove the soil that buried a D8 section close to the village of Dobkovičky in Ústí region is worth CZK 72m. Eurovia is already working on the site as the general contractor for the new stretch of motorway, one of the reasons minister Prachař said Eurovia should get the job without a tender. Another reason he gave was the lack of time.
However, the final price tag (CZK 80m) for the work is 75 percent higher than what was originally estimated. Ecologists have criticized the minister’s decision pointing out that the soil buried the motorway 16 months ago.
