Work on the the Oeiras Maritime Walk Tour has been suspended by the Administrative and Fiscal Court of Sintra, due to an injunction filed by the Association Vamos Salvar o Jamor (Let’s Save Jamor). The association claims that the work is illegal because it threatens to destroy the Caxias beaches. Margarida Novo, a member of the association, said that filing the injunction was a duty that had to be performed and hope that the court would find in their favor. “Destroying beaches in Portugal is against the law,” she said. However, Paulo Vistas, Oeiras City Council president, insisted that the project had been consulted with and approved by all the relevant authorities, since the work is being carried out on state property. The €2.5m project has been halted since last week.
