Falenta accused in government tape scandal

One of Poland’s most influential Warsaw Stock Exchange investors, Marek Falenta, has reportedly been accused of illegally eavesdropping on Polish politicians and businessmen. While the prosecutor’s office has declined to provide details about the case, Falenta’s attorney, Grzegorz Radwański, confirmed this week that Falenta is a prime suspect as are two employees at the Warsaw restaurant Sowa & Przyjaciele, where all the recordings were produced.

Falenta is related to one of the suspects, who was reportedly also working at the restaurant at the time when the recording were made, according to the daily Puls Biznesu. ā€œAll the information Falenta has been releasing where very detailed,ā€ the manager who was allegedly collaborating with Falenta told the daily. The newspaper claims that the manager, who is suspected of producing the tapes, referred to Falenta as ā€œbossā€. The daily did not release the manager’s name.

Falenta recently entered the Polish property investment market through the company Real2B in an effort to sell off a substantial part of his non-core real estate portfolio. Polish media outlets are speculating that the tapes were produced to help Falenta save his business, as he is reportedly facing some serious obstacles. Puls Biznesu also speculates that Felenta may have been cooperating with Russian intelligence.
