Fewer bids for Polish road contracts

26 February 2014

Only 10 bids were submitted to Poland’s General Directorate for National Roads and Highways (GDDKiA) for public contracts this year, a significant drop compared to previous years. ā€œIt’s much easier these days, as competition is currently much lower,ā€ says Dariusz Blocher of Budimex, adding, however, that margins for Polish road contracts continue to be low. ā€œWe have no chance to win contract with margins of 2 to 3 percent,ā€ he adds.

GDDKiA received 10 bids from contractors interested in building a new portion of the S19 motorway, connecting Sokołow Małopolski and Stoberinam. The contract went to Adelsa, which offered PLN 290m. The winning bid reflects 75 percent of the estimated value of the project. Barbara Dzieciuchowicz of Poland’s Chamber of Commerce building says this is acceptable as long as prices on building materials don’t go up dramatically, which happened in past years.
