Slovakia‘s opposition parties are in a huff over prime minister Robert Fico’s decision to cut the price on train tickets even further. Last year he angered his enemies when he decreed that children, students and pensioners could ride for free. Now, he’s offering a 50 percent sale on weekly and monthly train passes, sparking accusations that the move is nothing more than an attempt to buy votes. “It doesn’t make any economic sense,“ says Euro parliament deputy Richard Sulik (SaS), claiming that Slovaks that don’t ride the trains shouldn’t be forced to pay for the tickets of those who do.
