8 July 2020

In the first quarter of 2020, housing prices in Portugal rose 4.9 percent compared to Q4 2019. The price hike was the highest quarterly increase among European Union member states, according to Eurostat. EU-wide, the increase of prices for residential real estate rose just 1.2 percent over the first three months of the year, while they grew 0.9 percent within the eurozone.

In annual terms, the increase was 5 percent for the Eurozone, the largest increase since the second quarter of 2007. Extrapolating this to the countries of the European Union, the increase was even greater: 5.5 percent compared to the first quarter of 2019.
