Foreign pharmaceuticals invest in Prague IT centers

28 November 2014

The Czech Republic has been attracting more foreign pharmaceutical companies. Two large corporations have opened their IT centers in Prague this year: Switzerland’s Novartis and the US-based Merck Sharp & Dohme (MSD). Both are already planning to expand their centers in investments that will total billions of crowns, writes Hospodářské noviny. MSD’s vice president, John Westby, told the paper that the company originally wanted to hire 50 to 60 people to start with in Prague but ended up hiring twice as many. By the end of 2015, MSD plans to have a staff of 400 and will relocate to the Riverview building, developed by Skanska in Prague 5-Smíchov. MSD’s Czech investment will surpass CZK 1bn. Novartis is also expanding. The company plans to double its staff in Prague. It initially hired 150 employees.
