The former brewery in Jevíčko in the Svitavsko Region should be put to a new use. A private investor wants to build flats and social facilities for the elderly there. The brewery changed ownership some time ago and was acquired by the Brewery Triangle company, which also presented its plan to the town councillors, according to Mayor Dušan Pávek (Naše Jevíčko 2022).
“An apartment complex should be built there, which should include an Alzheimer centre, that is, an apartment complex for the elderly. It is not the intention of the town, but of a private development company,” Pávek said.
Because of the developer’s plans, the city would have to amend the zoning plan to allow for new buildings to be built on the site. He has no objections to the plan. “We are only dealing with minor details regarding the height of the buildings and other details to keep it under control. The site is in a location where you can see the city from the hill and it may play a role in the panoramic view,” the mayor said. According to him, a facility for the elderly, including those suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, is needed in Jevíček.
Pávek said the investor plans to demolish the original brewery buildings. They are in poor condition, their reconstruction would be too difficult and would not correspond to the new use, and they do not have monument protection. A new building is to be built in their place.
The brewery was founded in 1895 as the Jevíčko Brewery. It was closed in 1987 by the East Bohemian Breweries and handed over to the local agricultural cooperative. The brewery tried to repair the brewery but eventually sold it. The entrepreneurs invested in the brewery, but they lacked the money to complete the restoration. In 1998, the company Pivovar Jevíčko leased the brewery and, in addition to Gevík 10 and Gevík 12, also produced a soft drink made from malt, hops and Jevík grape sugar, but after a few months it stopped production. In 1999, the brewery was bought by Knížecí pivovar Lanškroun, which wanted to restart it, but the plan failed and in spring 2000 it sold the technology. In 2001, Ergo Chornice became the owner of the brewery in Jevíček, which malted barley in the brewery premises and later used it to produce moonshine and lemonade.
