Former Brno erotic club Moulin Rouge demolished for new apartment building

14 February 2022

One of the most visible remains of the 1990s in Brno, the erotic club Moulin Rouge on the corner of Slovákova and Kounicova streets in the wider city center, is currently being demolished by workers. A house with 36 flats will be built in its place, which will be built by the developer Winning Estate from the Brno group Winning Group. As Ondřej Blaho, CEO and member of the Winning PS Board of Directors announced, the former loggia house from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, with its dispositions and static condition, was not suitable for conversion into flats.

“The original building was added once in the 1990s and its static condition did not allow for further major modifications. In addition to 36 apartments with layouts from 1 + kk to 4 + kk, the new house will also have underground parking and two commercial units. It should be ready in 2024.

The original loggia was proof of the city’s growth beyond its historic core, Michal Doležel (TOP 09), a representative of the South Moravian region who told monuments and history, told ČTK. “The city grew rapidly at that time and such loggias were a typical residence of industrial Brno. Workers from textile and engineering factories and foundries lived in them. The house originally had an interesting roof, but it disappeared after an extension by one floor,” Doležel added.

At the beginning of the 1990s, the building received a flashy pink paint and a flood of neon lights, after 2000 another reconstruction took place, which added another floor to the building.
