The state prosecutor’s office is investigating abuse of power claims against Elena Udrea, Romania’s former minister of tourism and presidential candidate, filed by the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA). The claims against Udrea include attempting to use false documents and statements to secure funds from the EU budget, and abuse of influence in obtaining undue advantages and committing bribery. Prosecutors are demanding that Udrea be arrested on three acts of influence peddling – two in connection with a 2009 Microsoft licensing agreement, along with money laundering and submitting false wealth statements.
