Former ŘSD heads under investigation

19 November 2012

Police are investigating three former heads of the Czech railway authority (ŘSD) over the Supreme Audit Office (NKÚ)claims that construction costs of the Prague ring road were grossly overpriced. Alfréd Brunclík, René Poruba and Jiří Švorc led ŘSD between 2007 and 2012. Under their leadership, NKÚ inspectors found that the state paid excessive prices for the land, calling the CZK 21.5bn price tag for the southwest portion of the transport artery inadequate. Prague ring road has thus become the most expensive motorway in the Czech Republic, with prices topping CZK 1bn/km. Inspectors found 500 deviations from the original plan and the law has been violated in public tenders worth CZK 14bn, according the daily Hospodářské noviny.
