The French multinational Safran is considering setting up a repair and maintenance operation for airplanes and helicopters in Greece. Local authorities are keen to make the deal happen as it would mean additional investment and new job creation. However, the company is looking at a range of countries in the eastern Mediterranean, exploring the needs of its clients that use its engines as well as other electrical and mechanical equipment. Safran is also looking to provide services to the defense sector, where it is already very active, including work for the French subsidiary of Naval Group. Athens is evaluating whether to try to buy Naval Group’s Belharra frigates.
