Gebrüder Weiss responded to the limited availability of transport capacity from China to Europe by offering a regular container collection service using a rail link. “We offer Czech importers an alternative to air and sea freight transport from all over China, which is a train connection. Containers with consignments consolidated under our supervision leave X´ian every week and after 18 to 21 days they are delivered for clearance at our headquarters in Jenč near Prague without any transhipment, ”says Jan Kodada, Sales and Marketing Director of Gebrüder Weiss ČR.
The development of a rail link between China and Europe is part of the Gebrüder Weiss strategy, which aims to restore the Silk Road. “We are very pleased that the Czech Republic is the first in the Gebrüder Weiss network to offer regular LCL train connections. We believe that right now, when prices and capacity of air and sea transport are undergoing turbulent development, the railway is a very valuable and effective alternative, whether in terms of price level or time, “says Jan Kodada.
Gebrüder Weiss is currently benefiting from a network of 16 own branches in China. Customers can thus rely on picking up shipments throughout mainland China. The consignments are then loaded into their own containers at the X´ian terminal under the supervision of Gebrüder Weiss. “All goods that are loaded into our collection container travel without further transhipment through Ostrava and Syrovice to the headquarters in Jenč. This undoubtedly has a positive effect on the safety of the entire transport operation, “says Jan Kodada.
The transport of containers by train from China to Jenče takes 18-21 days, so it is about half as fast as the sea connection. At the same time, it is a balanced alternative to air transport, which is currently about eight times more expensive than the Gebrüder Weiss railway variant. The offer also includes customs clearance of goods or professional assistance in choosing the appropriate packaging.
“The railway connection is attractive for our clients thanks to a balanced combination of regularity, reliability and safety of shipments, and an interesting price certainly plays a role. Currently, we ship from China to the Czech Republic every week through 3 containers of 40 HC and this year we expect a further increase in interest in this service, “concludes Jan Kodada.
