The US company Gentherm is investing €20m into a 6,500 sqm factory in Prilep, the fourth largest city in Macedonia. The new facility will manufacture air-conditioners and seatbelts for Bentley, Renault, BMW, Porsche, and Fiat. Gentherm expects the factory will create 2,000 direct jobs and many more indirect ones.
“The availability of an educated workforce and excellent investment conditions were the reasons why we picked Macedonia,” said Jorg Evers, Gentherm’s European director. The factory is the company’s first step in a wider plan to expand across Europe, Evers said.
